Our closest living relative

The Bonobo is the living species that humans are most closely related to (and their relatives the common chimpanzee).

We share a common ancestor and are separated by only a few million years of evolution. Equally evolved, but in different directions.

Bonobos are able to recognize 'self' in mirror and other reflection tests. That's something a human child can't do until they are 18 months old.

See the resemblance?

I am nocturnal, and it is too bright out here.

I came back

The trouble with vacations is that they are temporary.
I'm back now.

But I took pictures!

Here is a preview. 5 week old African elephant (yet to be named) and his mother Umngani, sister Khosi (5) and brother Ingadze (2). They live at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, California.
